Choosing the Correct Watering Systems For Your Fleet

Choosing the correct watering system for your batteries is an important part of ensuring they are properly maintained, but it can be overwhelming. Before choosing a watering system, assess your needs. Take into consideration the size of your fleet, the number of industrial batteries in your possession and the amount of manpower that goes into watering batteries. Once you know what exactly it is you need, you can begin to compare systems.

Follow this basic comparison of two common watering systems with automatic shut off features to find the fit for you fleet:

Watering gun:

A watering gun is a manual filling system with a squeeze handle and automatic shut off. Watering guns can be attached to a standard watering hose or deionizer and will deliver water at a steady flow rate.

Watering guns can fill only one battery cell at a time but do not require extra set-up time like a single point system does. Though watering guns work for any sized fleet, the manpower needed to water large numbers of batteries one cell at a time is significant. For this reason, watering guns are often best suited to those with smaller fleets.

Single point:

A single point watering system allows the user to water all battery cells in a battery unit at one time. For a single point watering system, the main watering line is connected to a water transportation unit such as a watering cart.

A series of hoses running from a main watering line are then inserted into each battery cell. Each line has specialized caps that allow for an automatic shut off so that every cell is precisely filled.

This is a quick and easy way to water all the cells in a battery. Though single point watering systems can time consuming to set up for first use if they do not come pre-assembled, they are a convenient way to water batteries for a large fleet and tend to be more time efficient than watering guns.
